For Taylor Gray, High Expectations is an opportunity to show off his soccer skills and act alongside Kelsey Grammer. As for Ally Brooke, she gets to showcase her acting chops from her daily singing career as the first leading actress role.

Regardless, High Expectations is full of heart in the backdrop of soccer as one man pursues a career to gain approval from his well-known soccer and father coach.

The film also stars Briana Scurry and Tyler Chase. Jonathan Southard and Christopher D. White co-directed the movie from a script written by White and Kristinn Thordarson.

Here is the official synopsis:

Jack Davis (Taylor Gray) finds himself adrift after his father, the legendary Coach Davis (Kelsey Grammer), cuts him from his renowned soccer club, the Carolina Mantis. Estranged from his father, at odds with his brother, Mantis All-Star goalie Sam (Adam Aalderks), and desperate for purpose, Jack turns to his ex-girlfriend Sophia (Ally Brooke). Jack is inspired by her tough love and unwavering pursuit to become a recording artist. He tackles his depression and takes one last shot at his lifelong dream, by trying out for a rival soccer club. Can Jack finally prove that he is worthy of his dad’s love? Can he forgive and believe in second chances?

LRM Online’s Gig Patta spoke with the two lead actors with Taylor Gray and Ally Brooke about the film. We discussed Gray’s soccer abilities and getting to the headspace of his character. For Brooke, we talked about her first leading actress role and singing the main theme song in both English and Spanish for the movie.

Taylor Gray is best known for voicing Ezra Bridger in Disney XD’s Star Wars: Rebels from 2014 to 2018. He made appearances in television shows such as 9-1-1 and Hawaii Five-0.

Ally Brooke makes her lead actress debut in High Expectations. She is a former member of the girl group Fifth Harmony. In 2017, she established herself as a solo artist, being featured on several singles, and published a book titled “Finding Your Harmony” in October 2020.

High Expectations is in select theaters tomorrow, April 7, featured with Fathom.
