Hogwarts Legacy Is A Harry Potter Fan’s Wet Dream

It’s been a long-time coming. The Harry Potter franchise is decades old, and while it’s had its fair share of games, there has yet to be a full open-world experience. Like many, I’ve wanted to truly explore the grounds of Hogwarts and pave my own way as a student. With Hogwarts Legacy, it looks like we may get to do just that.

At the PlayStation 5 event yesterday, fans saw the first trailer for the game. In it, we saw Hogwarts in the 1800s. This is perfect, as it is a previously-unexplored era. In it, we won’t find Dumbledore (probably?), Voldemort, or any other familiar faces. Sure, we may see some familiar families, but as far as specific people, we’ll be in a mostly new world. All we’ll have are familiar locations and monsters. Check out the trailer below.

Believe it or not, this is the first game trailer for a Wizarding World game that made me want to actually explore the grounds. In the past, it always felt like you’d get funneled in through a specific set of rooms. With this one, I get the impression that you’ll actually get to explore in an open-world fashion.

As much as I’d love to think you’ll get to attend classes and level up that way, I hold no illusions that I’ll just get to go to school and become an average student. Like any good story or game, the beef of the story will likely be more engaging adventures that put gamers in crazy situations. I’m assuming that the bulk of the game can’t just be done being an average student, which is a shame for geeks like me.

Regardless, Hogwarts Legacy is a gorgeous-looking game that I can’t wait to dive into. Now, we just have to wait for its return at some nebulous date in 2021. What did you think of Hogwarts Legacy? Were you as infatuated with it as I was? Sound off down below!
