House of the Dragon has a very precise ending planned say showrunners Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik. The pair recently chatted with ComicBook.com ahead of the House of the Dragon premiere last night. I have watched said premiere and I plane to write a review of the opening episode later, so I won’t say much more about it here specifically.
Many fans, myself included, had issues with how Game of Thrones was wrapped up. Some of the issues Thrones had was the set of long unfinished books from creator George R. R. Martin. In later seasons the show branched off into its own story and ergo, its own ending. One that Martin himself was excluded from, and not too happy about. Yet, without those unfinished books the show remains the only ending for this story we have.
However House of the Dragon is a little different and the history of this conflict has already been devised by Martin in his backstory for his books. Where in that history will the House of the Dragon climax fall? Well, the showrunners are understandably not saying, but they of have a very precise ending in mind.
“We have a very, very precise idea of where we wanna go with it, but we can’t tell you”, said Sapochnik. “I think that the important thing is that this is a… Think of this as an Episode IV, the Star Wars Episode IV. So it’s kind of, we’re in the middle of a history that is rich and full of stories to tell and it’s a good place to start.”

Condal and Sapochnik went on to talk about their inspirations for this prequel series. Check the link above for the full interview. However in my opinion the one thing this show may have going for it that Game of Thrones did not, is a defined ending that Martin himself approves.
Now, whether that is an exciting ending and the show remains as engaging as Game of Thrones did for most of its run remains to be seen.
Showrunners Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik say House of the Dragon has a very precise ending planned. What do you want that ending to be? Where in the published timeline do you think the climax will come? Share any thoughts you have below as always.
