How Batwoman Season 2 Will Replace Ruby Rose | LRM’s Barside Buzz

It was quite a shock to DC fans when Batwoman star Ruby Rose stepped down as the titular Batwoman. Considering she had only taken on the role of Kate Kane in the CW series for a single season, it seemed very out of place. The network has a history of long-running comic book shows, so to see someone vacate the role so early on felt quite odd. It also opened up a bevy of questions — the most prominent one being, “how will they write her out of the show?”

There are several approaches they could take. They could recast the character, switch her out with another Earth’s Batwoman, or pass the baton within Gotham City itself. Those are just a few of the options, but it sounds like we may have an idea of which one they’ll be picking. The news comes courtesy of a Reddit post, where a leaked casting call reveals the direction Batwoman Season 2 is taking.

In the post, we see the call to cast a character named Ryan Wilder. She is set to be a woman in her mid to late 20s of any ethnicity. Very explicitly, the description says, “Ryan Wilder is about to become Batwoman.” So, make no mistake about it, this woman is about to take on the mantle Kate Kane once had.

“She’s likable, messy, a little goofy and untamed,” the description reads. “She’s nothing like Kate Kane, the woman who wore the batsuit before her. With no one in her life to keep her on track, Ryan spent years as a drug-runner, dodging the GCPD and masking her pain with bad habits. Today, reformed and sober, Ryan lives in her van with her plant. A girl who would steal milk for an alley cat and could also kill you with her bare hands, Ryan is the most dangerous type of fighter: highly skilled and wildly undisciplined. An out lesbian. Athletic. Raw. Passionate. Fallible. And very much not your stereotypical All-American hero.”

The call goes on to state that LGBTQ performers are encouraged to submit.

Sadly, this casting call doesn’t reveal one key aspect — what happened to Kate Kane? Will she take a note from her predecessor and disappear altogether? Will Ruby Rose take one for the team and actually pass on the baton in some way? Just how will it work?

I have lots of questions and can’t wait to see how this works out. This could be an interesting case in a series where its main character is written out and transformed going forward. Seeing this happen isn’t something you get to see every day, so my eyes will be glued to the internet.
