Veteran actor Lawrence Fishburne, who is a lifelong comicbok fan, recently spoke at a press conference that LRM had a chance to attend and discussed how he approached the studio for the role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The role turned out to be Dr. Bill Foster who can be seen in Friday’s Ant-Man and the Wasp. Having voiced a Marvel character previously, being the Silver Surfer in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Fishburne used this previous work as a way into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Speaking at a press conference, this is what Fishburne had to say.
“It is not the first Marvel role to come my way. In fact, years and years ago I… ran into a guy named Tim Story who directed the movie Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer and I said to him, ‘I am Norrin Radd,’ and he said, “Who?” and I said, “I am Norrin Radd and Norrin Radd is the guy who becomes the Silver Surfer and works for Galactus,’and all that stuff. So I voiced the Silver Surfer, Rise of the Silver Surfer and then I’ve been a reader since I was eight and a fan, you know, my whole life and… really enjoyed the movies and everything that, you know, they’ve done with MCU has been fantastic, because what they’ve done is… brilliantly braid the source material with, and bring it on into the now and so it’s amazing.
So I went and… and I realized that I was on the, the lot with Marvel, working at Blackish at ABC/Disney and remembered that I had worked with Louis D’Esposito a hundred years ago. And I thought, I should go talk to them. Say, hey. What do I got to do? Like… [LAUGHTER] who do I got to… to be in the movies and… [LAUGHTER] and they were kind enough to…
Well, they were kind enough to… to say, yeah, you know, we’ll think about that, Fish. So… a couple weeks later they were like, ah, you know about this guy? And oddly enough, it was a guy I didn’t know about.”

Come Friday, Fishburne will have lent his talents to both the Marvel and DC cinematic universe, as the actor also plays editor-in-chief of the Daily Planet, Perry White in the DCEU. Dr. Bill Foster is also known as Black Goliath, a character with similar tech and ability to Ant-Man and Wasp.
Ant-Man and the Wasp hits theaters this Friday.
