How Star Wars Formed Jon Favreau’s Taste In Film

As excited as Star Wars fans are for The Rise of Skywalker, it’s not the next Star Wars project set to be released. That honor goes to the Jon Favreau led spin-off series, The Mandalorian, which will be the first live-action Star Wars TV Show.

Favreau appeared at the show’s official press conference a couple of weeks ago, where LRM Online was in attendance, and talked about how the very first Star Wars film, A New Hope, was the film that formed his taste in cinema. You can check out what he had to say below.

“As somebody who grew up with Star Wars and really having been formed around what I experienced when I was little with the first film there was some aesthetic to it that I really gravitated to and my whole taste in movies was probably formed in a big way from seeing George Lucas’ original film and I learned about cinema through the lens of that film because my father would explain to me, no that’s, you know, this is a lot like samurai movies or this is a lot like westerns or World War II films.”

Star Wars was the introduction to what a film could be and mean for many others as well, at the time it was released it was so captivating to so many, the story, the myth, the wonderful new worlds we were shown and of course groundbreaking special effects. I agree with Favreau on the comparisons, I’ve heard many people call Star Wars, “The Searchers in space,” which is an old John Wayne film directed by John Ford, and if you’ve never seen it, there are some similarities worth checking out.
