Yesterday the world lost one of the great movie directors, Richard Donner, and tributes started flooding on social media. One specific tribute from Hugh Jackman got social media in abuzz having people speculate a return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Richard Donner was most well known for directing the 1978 Superman film which vaulted comic book superheroes to the cinematic industry. What most people don’t know is that Donner had an impact on other comic book film projects as well.

Now for the casual fan, this Instagram story would definitely get you excited. You have one post with fan art of Wolverine’s claws, the second post is a picture with Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige with Hugh Jackman, and the third is a written tribute to the late Richard Donner.
The easiest post to explain is the written tribute to Richard Donner but some fans are confused about how that story is linked to the other images. While Donner is most remembered for his part in the first two Superman films but he also kickstarted the X-Men film franchise. He was the executive producer for the first X-Men film as well as X-Men Origins: Wolverine which Hugh Jackman starred in both as Wolverine. This explains the link between Donner and Hugh Jackman and the tribute posts.
The photo with Jackman and Feige might still have some fans confused. The reason why Feige is included in the tribute post is Feige was an associate producer on the first X-Men film. Donner made Feige an associate producer for the film because of his vast knowledge of the Marvel Universe. The first X-Men film was the jumpstart for all the comic book films we have now so it only makes sense to have a tribute to Donner with Jackman and Feige in it.
While I would love to see Hugh Jackman make another appearance as Wolverine in the MCU this Instagram post was not the announcement some want it to be.
