Thanks to the variety of series being produced at Warner Bros. Television for the DC Universe streaming service like Titans, Doom Patrol, Stargirl and Swamp Thing every few days we seem to learn about other characters that we will soon get to see in their respective live action series. Yesterday for example we learned that Joel McHale was cast as Starman in the Stargirl series. But Warner Bros. made yet another casting announcement this time for Swamp Thing.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ian Ziering will be joining the cast of Swamp Thing as the DC Comics’ character Blue Devil a stuntman turned hero who fights occult evil in a recurring guest star role. Ziering spent a decade starring on Beverly Hills 90210 and then became the star of the popular Sharknado films. The Warners series describe the character as:
“Stuntman turned movie star, Daniel Cassidy became semi-famous after playing the demonic Blue Devil. But now, eight years later, Cassidy finds himself living out his days in frustration, pining for his former fame while on a collision course with destiny.”
Blue Devil aka Dan Cassidy first appeared in DC Comics in June 1984 in Fury of Firestorm #24 and was created by Dan Mishkin, Gary Cohn and Paris Cullins. This lead into his own series titled Blue Devil which ran for 25 issues. Blue Devil is actually featured in this week’s DC Comics’ Justice League Dark #6 written by James Tynion IV with artwork by Daniel Sampere. In this title he is temporarily serving as the Nightmaster in the realm of Myrra after Detective Chimp is arrested for messing up the realm by trying to bring back Jim Rook from the dead.
Swamp Thing is currently in production with James Wan as executive producer along with Mark Verheiden, Gary Dauberman, Michael Clear and Len Wiseman. The series is based off of the characters created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson.
