Ike Perlmutter says he was fired from Disney, not laid off in a recent interview. To quote Jeremy Clarkson, “Oh no!…….. Anyway.” Perlmutter has been talking about his recent dismissal and moaning how only he could see what is happening at Disney. How he’s a guy who makes money and not one of these creatives who want a blank check etc.
Truth is Perlmutter was the one holding the MCU back. It’s been well publicized if you were female or a minority then you’d struggle to be allowed to lead a movie. Things got so bad between Perlmutter and current boss Kevin Feige that the former was ready to fire the latter. Disney CEO Bob Iger stepped in and reorganized the structure so Feige would no longer report to Ike. The MCU, then went on to have more success than it had previously. Though, I would say right now the profits seem to be dropping as does the quality. It’s hard to say who we blame for that, maybe Feige, maybe Chapek, but certainly not Perlmutter, not these days anyway.
Speaking with the The Wall Street Journal, here is what Perlmutter had to say.
“I have no doubt that my termination was based on fundamental differences in business between my thinking and Disney leadership, because I care about return on investment, all they talk about is box office, box office,” he added. “I care about the bottom line, I don’t care how big the box office is. Only people in Hollywood talk about box office.”

“It was merely a convenient excuse to get rid of a longtime executive who dared to challenge the company’s way of doing business.”
“My experience with any major corporation, when they’re having problems and they don’t have the free cash or whatever it is, usually people like Nelson Peltz know how to put it back on track,” Perlmutter said. “I learned one thing about creative people my whole life: You cannot give them an open credit card.…They’re doing this for 30 years, why would they change?”
That will be the same Peltz who tried to make a power play recently on the Disney board. Everyone knew he and Perlmutter were making a grab for power and now that’s failed it seems Ike had nowhere else left to hide.
Thankfully, I have no connections with Disney, or any other movie studios. Therefore, I can say whatever the hell I like. I’m glad Perlmutter got sacked instead of laid off. I also hope he never got any golden handshake, because I do not respect him, his views, or his ideas for movies.
Good riddance to bad rubbish I say. Don’t let the door hit your ass on the way out Ike. Smell you later. See ya, but I wouldn’t wanna be ya, and all that jazz.
So, Ike Perlmutter says he was fired from Disney, not laid off. Oh, and I think this is justice. However, what do you think? Thoughts below as always.
