Infinity War VFX Artists Say That The Fan Theorised Soul World Doesn’t Exist….Yet

Fans have spent the last few months pulling apart Avengers: Infinity War looking for clues as to what comes next for Earth’s mightiest heroes. A lot of the fan theories have revolved around the colors of the Infinity Stones and the clues of those colors being present in certain scenes.

So two big theories that have resulted. One is that all the souls which were destroyed in Thanos’ decimation are present in the Quantum Realm with Ant-Man as big floating orange blobs appearing in the post-credits scene of Ant-Man and the Wasp. Another is that the place where Thanos task with a youthful Gamora and she asks what it cost him to complete his task is actually the soul world, due to the orange hew of the sequence and the fact we already know Gamora was sacrificed by Thanos to get the Soul Stone.

However, according to the VFX artists that worked on Infinity War, this scene and this place was never once named. In an interview with IGN Digital Domain’s Kelly Port and Marvel Studios’ Dan DeLeeuw say currently this world or realm has no official name and as far as they are concerned it’s not the Soul World until they hear from Kevin Feige that it is. It was instead referred to by the team as “the way station.” Port then goes on to say, “I don’t think it’s a place that actually exists,” and that it was intentionally left to be as vague as possible in Infinity War.

Of course, this does not mean that this place will not be revealed as being the soul world at some point in Avengers: Endgame. I hardly think the artists who are probably also working on Endgame would be daft enough to start confirming or denying fan theories about the movie now. That’s a sure fire way to make sure this is the last Marvel movie you work on.

I’d wager even if they know fine well this is the Soul World, then there’s no way they’d be telling IGN about it casually. Ultimately we will have to wait for Avengers: Endgame for answers if we get any at all. However, I don’t think any of us would be surprised to find out that Gamora and possibly other souls are still inside this realm/reality or dimension.
