One of the biggest panels for today’s line up in sunny California was for Marvel’s Iron Fist Season 2. During the events of a signing, there was an opportunity for a few questions which made fan even happier as they gathered around Finn Jones and Jessica Henwick. During which it was revealed that Clayton Barber, the Black Panther fight coordinator, would be in charge of the fight choreography for the second season of Iron Fist.
It was obvious to anyone that watched the first season that the fighting was, for a PG description, atrocious. With a character, literally, named Iron Fist action needs to be the key staple on which the series is built around. Bringing in Barber is a solid first step in turning that series around as the action in Black Panther, while not revolutionary, was solid. Perhaps coordinator with more fights suited for TV could have been brought in but Barber has been in charge of countless movies and has connections with Marvel making him the 1st call.
Barber noted that the inspirations for the fights of the upcoming season were “Old school Kung fu” and wanted Iron Fist to resemble “Jackie Chan” he also noted that he “turn this thing into a punk rock song and that’s what we did. You’re really going to enjoy it.”
It is really nice to see Marvel realizing their mistakes with the Iron Fist series and taking the initiative to fix them. If Iron Fist Season 2 is anything like Jackie Chan’s Rumble in the Bronx the next season will be great.
