IT Director’s Cut On The Way

IT just hit Digital HD release, with Blu-ray not too far down the ways. Earlier today, we reported on the deleted scenes the release would have, and while that’s all well and good, some other news dropped that may make you rethink picking up the film in the immediate future.

Bloody-Disgusting reached out to IT director Andy Muschietti on Instagram, and when asked if there would still be a director’s cut down the line, he replied by saying, “Yes, but in a few months.”

The outlet goes on to speculate that with that release we could end up seeing the much talked about “Pennywise eating baby” scene. However, my mind can’t help but go in a different direction. Once this duology of films is complete, we’ll likely have five different releases.

We’ll have IT: Chapter One, IT: Chapter One Director’s Cut, IT: Chapter Two, IT: Chapter Two Director’s Cut, and IT: The Ultimate Cut, the last of which will likely be a version of the film that will likely be cut in a similar way as the book, with the story hopping between adult and child storylines. I tell you what, if there’s one cut I’m looking forward to most, it’s that one.

While it’d be easy to get cynical about this, with New Line Cinema likely frothing at the mouth about being able to double or triple dip here with fans, I think each iteration has the potential to add a lot, and only means greater things for fans.
