It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia To Have ‘Waiting For Godot’ Inspired Episode In Season 14

The Gang from Paddy’s Pub will be using playwright Samuel Beckett’s famous work, Waiting for Godot, as an inspiration for an episode of the upcoming and impressive fourteenth season of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. If you’re unfamiliar with the work, it’s a play in which nothing really happens and the people waiting for Godot, just wait, as the character never shows up.

The episode, while using the play as a basis, will be laser tag themed. Charlie Day, who co-stars, writes and produces the series recently spoke with the press afte ra tour of the show’s sets and mentioned the upcoming episode, you can check out what he had to say below.

““We’re doing a Waiting for Godot themed laser tag episode that America has always wanted. We went through a lot of versions of the draft and some of them were a lot more existential where nothing was happening and we realized this isn’t going to work. We’ve got to get a few jokes in there. It’s a fun way for the characters to contemplate themselves, who they are as people and for us as a show to contemplate the show and its success or lack of and how long we’ve been on. We use those metaphors but we also make sure there’s plenty of laser tag themed moments to keep the pacing going.”

As Jeff Goldbum once said, “The Gang finds a way.” The team keeps coming up with ways to keep the show relevant, original, and funny and is the reason it’s one of the greatest sitcoms of all time. We won’t have to wait long for the fourteenth season of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia as it will premiere on FXX September 25.
