We are just a few days away from DC’s Justice League. When the review embargo lifts in a few days us fans will get a better idea of what to expect from the film. Social media commentary is allowed, and there seems to be a consensus that DC nailed the characters, but that once again, the narrative has some issues. The man who plays Commissioner Gordon in the film, the always welcome J.K. Simmons, had this to say about his character in the Justice League Companion Book:
“My take on Commissioner Gordon is that he’s a badass, but that’s an under-appreciated part of who he is, because he’s eclipsed by the ultimate badass, Batman. But Gordon is a tough ex-Marine, who worked his way up and can handle himself in the turf of bad guys. Compared to Batman, he’s just a regular guy, but compared to most people, he’s a champion.”
I hope we get to see Gordon be this badass Simmons is talking about, fighting in the streets and showing he is no slouch. The iterations of the character we have a seen on screen up to this point have been tough and smart, but haven’t really seen a version of the character get down and dirty in the streets. Currently, Gary Oldman’s version of the character is my favorite, but I really enjoy Simmons as an actor and am interested to see what he brings to the commissioner.
Justice League is in theaters everywhere November 17.
