Jack Black May Be Retiring From Movies Soon

Get your Jack Black love in while you can, because the dude looks to be wrapping it up pretty darn soon. Of course, Black has been a big part of the pop culture-sphere for decades now. Some may recognize him from the early 1982 Pitfall commercials, but I personally remember seeing him in bit roles back in the early ‘90s — most notably as the villain in NeverEnding Story III: Escape From Fantasia. Okay, maybe most notably for me.

The early 2000s was when things really took off for him, and between that, his music work, and apparently his YouTube channel(?), he’s been quite the busy dude. But it looks as though he’s at least readying to call it quits on one aspect of his career…acting.

“Maybe one more movie,” Black told Balance. “I’m kind of enjoying the idea of early retirement… I’ve been saying for a long time that this is the last movie. We’ll see. I can’t really say what my next thing is because it’s too early; it’s a jinxer. I’ve got a couple of tricks up my sleeve. But not too many. I’m looking to wrap it up pretty soon. Ride off into the sunset.”

But it’s not as though he wants to stop because he’s sick of it. No, as with many creatives, he wants to pull back and spend more time with his family. But it sounds like he’s open to doing a TV show down the line, so long as it has a healthier work-life balance.

“Maybe I’ll do a TV show here in town, so I can work the 9 to 5 and then get back home,” Black said. “We’ll see. I’m not a big five-year plan kind of guy though. I don’t really look down the road. I kind of take it day by day. And if something comes up, you know, obviously if [Quentin] Tarantino comes a-knocking, I’m gonna do that movie… Maybe I’m going to pull a Tarantino and say, ‘Guys. I’ve done 99 movies. I’m going to do one more. Gonna go out on top!’”
