If there is one man that helped define the looks of the Marvel Universe as we know it, the name that will come to mind first would probably be Jack Kirby. Besides creating Captain America, Jack had a hand in creating the design for characters like The Hulk, Thor, Doctor Doom, Ego the Living Planet, and many others. So it should go without saying that a Marvel movie would have something to give a shout out to one of the creator’s of its universe.
Bleeding Cool found a nice little Easter Egg in the new Thor: Ragnarok trailer. It happens during this scene.
It may not seem like much but there is an Easter Egg there. On the back panel of the wall is a drawing of what looks to be a machine. And a machine it is because it comes directly from Marvel Comics. It’s the splash page from Fantastic Four Issue 64.
Let’s get one thing out of the way. This appearance from a Fantastic Four comic does not mean that we’re going to see the team show up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel has the rights to use the comics in any way they see fit. So if they decide to use part of an image from a Fantastic Four comic, they have every right to do so so long as they do not imply the characters are somehow going to be in the movie.
It’s also a nice surprise that I certainly wouldn’t have noticed. The fact that anyone apart from the set designers of the film were able to locate the origin of that set piece is astounding what with all the comics there are to sort through. They did a good job finding it plus it gives fans another reason to dive into the comics via such methods as Marvel Unlimited.
So what do you think? Did you notice the Easter Egg when you saw the trailer? Were there any other Easter Eggs you noticed that got you excited? Do hidden surprises like this encourage you to explore the comics? Sound off in the comments section below.
