Director James Gunn knows a thing or two about handling Marvel properties is currently heading up a project over at DC in The Suicide Squad. Gunn was recently responded to comic book artist Gail Simone’s #My5XMen hashtag which asked fans to assemble a team of their five favorite Mutants.

Gunn, being Gunn, of course, can up with one very odd, but very cool choice for one of the spots on his team. You can check out what Gunn had to say below.

I’m not familiar with Doop. I must say he looks a lot like Slimer from Ghostbusters, I wonder if they’re related? I bet Doop would be a fun guy to have around though. As far as the rest of Gunn’s team, I’ve heard of Fantomex, but again I don’t know much about the character. The others, however, I know quite well.

Over the weekend we learned that there have been discussions over at the House of Mouse regarding the much-beloved X-Men: The Animated series. Perhaps James Gunn can lobby for Doop’s to be included in the reboot if it does in fact happen.

I think bringing back the animated show would be a smart move for the Mouse and as long as the revival does justice to the original, Disney could score some major points with fans. The series returning could also serve as a holdover until Disney decides how and when to bring the X-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Their incorporation will be the biggest addition to the MCU, opening tons more opportunities for mastermind Kevin Feige and his team.
