James Gunn gives us a taste of superior sequels.
The ever-elusive sequel that ends up the rare film that tops its predecessor. Known to many as the sasquatches of cinema (ok maybe that’s just me) screen gems such as these are few and far between, but for movie geeks like us, they are a sight to behold.
Speaking of movie geeks, a rather high ranking one who goes by the name of James Gunn recently revealed the sequels he feels fall into the better than the original category. You can check out his list that he posted via his Twitter account below.
Sequels (2nd movie only) better than the originals.
Toy Story 2
Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans
Evil Dead 2
The Dark Knight
Bride of Frankenstein
For a Few Dollars More
Empire Strikes Back

Bravo Mr. Gunn, well done indeed James. I mean, that list is pretty freaking solid. The only films on the list that I can’t agree with Gunn on are the two or three I haven’t actually seen, but judging by the rest of the list, I’ll take his word for it.
When you’re a writer, a director, and even to an extent, an actor of a hugely-popular film, the pressure to exceed expectations and deliver another crowd-pleaser must be a task truly daunting. I find the 2-better-than-1 phenomenon similar to finding a cover of a song that the majority of people like better than the version from the original artist.
