James Gunn On His Involvement With Thor: Love And Thunder

Love And Thunder Breakup Flashbacks Teased By Hemsworth And Portman

Director James Gunn on his involvement with Thor: Love and Thunder! The Love and Thunder trailer hit last week. Therefore fans likely know that the Guardians of the Galaxy will be in the movie. The Guardians are Gunn’s baby, and as such the director has been consulted thus far whenever these characters have appeared in movies he’s not writing. So would that trend continue within Thor: Love and Thunder? That’s the question one fan posed to Gunn online. The director, as ever, responded in a polite, though hardly revealing manner.

Honestly this just makes complete sense and I think both Gunn and Waititi are on good terms with one another. When Gunn wrote the script for Guardians 3 initially, it was supposed to come years ago. Since he was fired, and re-hired, the Guardians have appeared in both Infinity War, Endgame, and now Thor: Love and Thunder.

It appears to me that Gunn is trying to preserve the majority of that initial script, or it’s final draft. I’d also make a guess that the Holiday Special came about initially as a way to have Guardians 3 start with the whole team intact. In other words I reckon Gamora will return in that Holiday Special. I’ll also guess that anything he asked for a change with regards to Love and Thunder would be to keep in line with where the characters go next, rather than the nitty gritty of Waititi’s movie.

At the end of the day the MCU unlike perhaps some other franchises needs to maintain its continuity. Sometimes details change as the story requires, but you can’t reboot the universe every time someone has a cool idea either. Gunn being asked to take a look therefore as said above just makes good sense for me.

Are you excited to see the Guardians back in Thor: Love and Thunder? What do you think of the comments of James Gunn on his involvement with Thor: Love and Thunder? Thoughts below as always.
