We all probably have our own rankings of the MCU movies. But I suppose it is newsworthy when James Gunn ranks the Iron Man and Thor movies. Gunn of course has directed two MCU movies so far, and is set to round that out with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, eventually. Let’s face it folks, there is up and down in the MCU just like every other property out there. Luckily for us fans, the lows of the MCU have not ben as numerous as the highs.
So in this lockdown climate, Gunn responds to a fan on social media and gives us his rankings for the three Iron Man and the three Thor movies. Gunn’s ranking for Iron Man is 1, 3, 2. Whereas, his ranking for the Thor movies is 3, 1, 2. Check it out.

I personally agree with Gunn’s rankings for both franchises. However, I am sure there will be fans out there who disagree, especially when it comes to Iron Man 3. I have heard from many fans who rate Iron Man 3 as the worst of the franchise, but its certainly not unanimous. If I tackle Iron Man first, then you won’t find many fans who don’t agree that Iron Man was the best of the three movies. The other two Iron Man movies however, are more debateable.

When it comes to Thor, you may find some larger differences of opinion. I personally agree with Gunn that Thor: Ragnarok was the best Thor movie. In fact, it’s not even close for me, I loved Ragnarok, and I didn’t particularly love Thor or it’s sequel The Dark World. Not everyone shares the love of Thor: Ragnarok though, I remember a lot of fans who really didn’t like the style of Ragnarok at the time. I would say those fans were in the minority, but that’s largely irrelevant in a discussion such as this.
I also go one further than Gunn and rank the Captain America trilogy. Without a doubt for this fan, The Winter Soldier was the best Cap movie. Equally, it is not hard for me to grapple between Civil War and The First Avenger. I would say Civil War is a much better movie than The First Avenger. Yet, that first Cap movie is one I don’t dislike as much as some fans seem to, because it is the foundation upon which Captain America is built.
I know Gunn also ranked the Bourne movies, but I’m not a fan. Gunn rates the third movie as the best and that’s one I have not seen after disliking the two previous movies. But hey, don’t let my ignorance stop you from joining the game.
So James Gunn ranks the Iron Man and Thor movies, but what do you think? Leave your thoughts below in the usual spot.
