Yesterday, we heard writer Damon Lindelof express his interest in trying his hand at a film set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe or, in a galaxy far, far away. Today, we read that Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has no interest in the franchise. Some directors would give most anything for a chance to direct a Star Wars film. There aren’t many directors with a stance this staunch on Star Wars as Gunn.
Gunn recently participated in a Q&A session on Instagram and was asked if he had any level of interest in making a Star Wars movie. You can check out what he had to say below.
“No it doesn’t really interest me as a filmmaker. I can’t think of any franchises I’d want to join other than the ones I’m already a part of.”

This is surprising, as Gunn seems like he would be right at home in the Star Wars universe, and I’d actually be interested in watching that hypothetical film. It’s difficult to see why the franchise doesn’t interest Gunn, as the galaxy has so much potential.
However, the the ever-looming wrath of the Star Wars fanbase as well as the immense pressure during every stage of the process. Perhaps Gunn’s filmmaking interests will change one day and we’ll see him bring us what I can only describe as, Guardians of a Galaxy Far, Far Away.
