James Mangold Confirms He’s Still Writing First Draft Of Dawn Of The Jedi Star Wars Movie

In a recent interview writer/director James Mangold opens up about plans for his 'Dawn of the Jedi' era Star Wars movie.

Writer/director James Mangold confirms he is still writing the first draft of his Dawn of the Jedi Star Wars movie. Mangold was announced by as helming and writing a movie set in a new era of the Star Wars Universe. That era was named the ‘Dawn of the Jedi’ era. We know it’s around 25k years prior to the events of Star Wars. That obviously gives us an idea of where this movie will go. However, we have yet to get an official title.

Mangold had a recent interview with Deadline around his Bob Dylan biopic. When asked about Star Wars Mangold explained that he and his writing partner Beau Willimon are still writing their first draft. Mangold has been pretty busy every since the movie was first announced to be fair.

‘I ask about the Star Wars movie, Dawn of the Jedi, which he’s signed on to direct, and write with Beau Willimon (House of Cards). ”My partner and I have been writing it. I don’t know what’s next because we haven’t gotten to the end of that process,” he replies, “we’re trying to finish a draft.”’

Though, to be honest This one does not excite me that much. Unlike most fans it seems, I am not a huge fan of Logan. I was also not a fan of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.  It was just so boring compared to the originals directed by Spielberg.

Mangold commented on the poor reception the final Indy movie had.

“You have a wonderful, brilliant actor who’s in his eighties. So I’m making a movie about this guy in his eighties, but his audience on one other level doesn’t want to confront their hero at that age. And I am like, I’m good with it. We made the movie. But the question is, how would anything have made the audience happy with that, other than having to start over again with a new guy?”

Making it a fun adventure movie would have been one James. Bring back Ke Huy Quan as Shorty for the action scenes and play Indy as the father figure. There you go, easy as that. However, we shall see if this Star Wars movie ever gets made. Never assume it will until cameras begin rolling when it comes to Lucasfilm these days.

What do you think as James Mangold confirms he’s still writing the first draft of his Dawn of the Jedi Star Wars movie? Thoughts below as always.
