Actor Jay Hernandez has been cast as the new Magnum P.I. in an upcoming reboot of the 80’s television show. We all know Hernandez has the acting chops, but the real question is, does he have the mustache game? We’ll have to wait and see on that one. The reboot will update the military service of the former Navy Seal, Thomas Magnum from Vietnam to Afghanistan to make it more in line with the times.

Magnum P.I. was wildly popular in the 80’s, and while I was too young to be a loyal viewer, my parents did watch the show and mostly I remember Magnum’s red Ferrari, Higgins, T.C. and of course that manly stache that would even give Ned Flanders a run for his money. And yes, while writing this, the original show’s theme song is now stuck in my head.
The television reboots continue, though Magnum P.I. has been gone longer than some of the other recently revived shows such as Will & Grace, Prison Break, and Roseanne, it may just the right time to bring it back. And I have to believe that the seventh season of Archer, had something to do with Magnum P.I.’s revival.
Hernandez was in last year’s Bad Moms Christmas as well as in Netflix’s fantasy cop drama, Bright. He is also thought to be reprising the role of Diablo in Suicide Squad 2.
