The Batman has been an upcoming film for roughly half a decade now. The film was stagnant for a good long while before Reeves came aboard, and now with the whole industry shut down, we’ll all be waiting that much longer for a new film featuring the Dark Knight.
Westworld star Jeffery Wright will be playing Commissioner Gordon in the upcoming film. The actor recently spoke with SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show. Wright says the Caped Crusader’s next adventure will be the next big jump forward for the characters. Check out what he had to say below
“My take is — the way I explain what we’re doing is, like with any film, we’re working together to create a mood, to create an idea, a setting, a tone. This is the next evolution since 1939 when these stories began. This is the next evolution of Gotham. So I am working off the stage [director] Matt [Reeves] is providing and also working off what [star] Robert [Pattinson] is doing. We are trying to create something together that is our own, but is also Batman.”

I’m not exactly sure what to make of the above quote. Even so, I am intrigued by the ‘next evolution’ phrase. I have no what happened to the franchise in 1939, but now I’m going to have to go look it up. Wright also made some more comments about the Batmobile in the film, check it out below.
“I read the script for the Batmobile and I was like, ‘Yeah, that’s it.’ [Bruce Wayne] created the most badass muscle car you could imagine, but it’s grounded in Gotham. It’s grounded in Americana.”
Wright’s comments are again somewhat unusual. I know what the Batmobile is what Gotham City is, and what Americana is. I’m just not sure how they all work together in the way Wright is intending to paint them. And again, I’m perplexed but interested.
