Jenna Ortega And Jack Quaid Talk About Joining The Scream Franchise

Scream

The Scream franchise is one of the greatest horror franchise in film industry.  The films contributed to David Arquette rise to fame and solidified Neve Campbell and Courtney Cox as superstars.  Spanning over 20 years the Scream films were able to break the fourth wall and critique other horror films with their cliches.  By doing this the films rewrote the way horror films should be treated.

The original crew of Sydney Prescott (Neve Campbell), Gale Weathers (Courtney Cox), and Dewey Riley (David Arquette) will be teaming up with a new crew of young actors in the film.  Film creators Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett want to usher in a new young generation of horror fans.

While the Scream franchise is iconic for those who grew up in the late 90’s and early 2000’s it was surprising to hear that a fifth film was being worked on. Our LRMOnline correspondent, Nancy Tapia participated in the virtual production press day with the cast during production. Several of the cast shared their experience filming and the joy of being a part of the new Scream film. When she asked how excited the new cast was to join this huge franchise? Jenna Ortega and Jack Quaid had this to say:

Jenna Ortega: I feel like I’m living in a fantasy world, whereas everyday I walk on to the set or like I interact with my castmates and it’s all just so perfect and so unbelievable. And I’ve just been having such an amazing time that it’s almost too good to be true. And especially to be a part of a franchise that I respect so much and just have such an immense amount of love for it. It’s such an amazing feeling. And I just could not be more grateful to be here, to even be given the opportunity. And I’m really surrounded by the people who are the best of the best at what they do. And that’s also just another… It’s like a cherry on top. It’s been beautiful.

Jack Quaid: It’s been incredible for me. I mean, I feel like so much of that is due to Matt and Tyler. Our directors. They are, for people who make movies that are so messed up and so terrifying, they’re the sweetest people. Some of the sweetest people I’ve ever met and they’ve been very encouraging. And this is… It’s a slightly new situation for all of us because we’re doing this somewhat during this whole pandemic. But I really do feel that we haven’t really even skipped a beat. It’s been so great and they’re encouraging us to add our own little touches and I feel like that energy just kind of radiates throughout the whole set. And even when we’re off set, it’s just been such an absolute joy to work on. I personally have no complaints. It’s just been great.

You might recognize Jack Quaid from the super popular show The Boys.  Nancy Tapia asked Jack, what it was like to transition from The Boys, a superheroes drama, to doing Scream comedy slash horror mystery?

Jack Quaid: Oh man, thank you for watching the show, by the way. I think the transition has been actually not too insane. I think the hurdles of that have come from not being on a set in quite a while due to the pandemic. I think my first day I was like, “Me act? Can I do?” It was very hard. It was very interesting to shake the rust off, but you know, they’re both very subversive and I really do love things that play around with genre. So it’s just been really fun. I got no complaints. Oh. And blood is involved in both. I have this. So I feel very much at home.
