In a recent interview Jensen Ackles says he’d love to be Batman in the new DCU and I’d back him for it for sure. We know there will be a new Batman/ Bruce who will make their debut in The Brave and the Bold, which will be directed by Andy Muschietti. However, it is honestly a little too early for casting speculation. The movie may have a director, but as yet there is no writer, and there won’t be one till the WGA strike ends.

Therefore when asked at a convention lately if he could respond to rumors of him being one of the top choices for Batman, Ackles was understandably coy. In the video below Ackles explains how the WGA strike means no official talks are going on, it’s all in the back and nothing official. However, he also has a few laughs with the crowd, first that Pedro Pascal will probably get it before him, and then that he wouldn’t be interested anyway. However, the truth is, Batman is Ackles favorite superhero and he would absolutely love to play Batman in the DCU.

Of course, what this does not inform us at all is whether Ackles is one of the names being looked at? For now, the casting process is on Superman: Legacy. I therefore doubt James Gunn and Peter Safran are looking too hard at Batman yet, but they will have half an eye on casting the role for sure.

Do I think Ackles would make a good Batman? Yes, indeed I do. Ackles is pretty versatile and has a certain charm which means he can do comedy and serious in the same role which to be fair not all actors can pull off. I could totally see Ackles persona as Bruce being the suave, billionaire bachelor that is really just an act. At the same time I can see Ackles being broody when he’s in the cape and cowl.

There are plenty of great actors out there around the right age, however speculation is probably a bit too early for now. Let’s wait till Superman: Legacy gets cast and then we may get some movement related to The Brave and Bold.
