A Scooby-Doo spin-off is headed to HBO Max. The series, Velma, will be a prequel and follow the early days of Mystery Inc. member Velma Dinkley. Mindy Kaling will executive produce the project as well as providing the voice for Velma. The series has been given a 10-episode order and you can check out a description from HBO Max below.
“[Velma will tell] the origin story of Velma Dinkley, the unsung and underappreciated brains of the Scooby-Doo Mystery Inc. gang” and that the show is “an original and humorous spin that unmasks the complex and colorful past of one of America’s most beloved mystery solvers.”
The series will be part of HBO Max‘s expansion of animated content aimed toward older audiences.. No official production schedule has been released so a release date is unknown at this time.

This is some groovy news. I’ve been a Scooby-Doo fan most all my life. I still to do this day refer as vanilla wafers as Scooby Snacks. With Mindy Kaling’s brand of humor, and her being an excellent writer, I feel pretty confident this will turn out well. And along with being a lot of fun, we will get to see a different side of Scooby-Doo allowing us to get to know Velma Dinkley much better.
I will surely be checking this out when the time comes. I’m up for almost any sort of new Scooby-Doo content. However, now I want to see a more adult take on the Scooby-Doo gang as a whole. You know, find out why Daphne was Fred’s favorite person to hunt for clues with, and really get to the bottom of why Shaggy and Scooby are all-to-often paranoid and why they seem to crave copious amounts of some really strange food combinations.
