Joker: Lakeith Stanfield Thinks His Playing The Clown Prince Of Crime Is Inevitable?

The Joker is one of the most iconic characters in all of storytelling. From comics to film and TV, there is no shortage of ways to get your Joker fix in some way or another, but it’s on the big screen where the character has made the biggest splash over the years. Obviously, Ledger’s take on the Clown Prince of Crime in The Dark Knight has gone on to be the gold standard for comic book villains (a standard no one has been able to live up to yet, arguably), but there are two well-respected actors currently playing the character.

First up, Jared Leto played him in the recent Suicide Squad film, and as far as we know, he will be returning to play him once again in the impending Suicide Squad 2. Joaquin Phoenix is also playing him in the standalone Joker movie from Todd Phillips, in what everyone is hoping will be another textbook take on the character.

Prior to the casting of Phoenix in that Todd Phillips-directed feature, there is one actor who expressed his interest in taking on the character: Lakeith Stanfield.

The Sorry to Bother You actor has apparently not given up hope that it’ll happen someday, as he revealed to Deadline.

“I want people to dress up as me as black Joker when that inevitably happens. I just think there are so many things that haven’t been touched yet in terms of how the performance can be delivered,” Stanfield told the outlet. Then he added: “When I make the movie myself.”

Seems like the man is determined to snatch the role one way or another, and personally, I’m all for it. Stanfield is one of those actors who disappears completely in his roles, and I can see his Joker being absolutely insane in a completely unexpected way.

But what do you think? Have you had a chance to check out Stanfield in any of his roles, spanning from Get Out to Death Note (the latter of which where he played the exceedingly eccentric L pretty darn perfectly, in spite of what you thought of the film)? Let us know your thoughts down below!
