Todd Phillips’ take on Batman’s arch nemesis the Clown Prince of Crime, Joker, will make it’s North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival this September. The film stars Joaquin Phoenix in the titular role and is sure to be a performance for the ages.

Joker has moved along quite quickly, especially in comparison to the production of Matt Reeves The Batman, which while has had some movement of information lately, has gestated for years now, fans can only hope the time it’s taken will pay off.

Phillips stated not long ago that nothing from the comics was used as a basis to create the Joker, which causes both intrigue an concern among fans, yours truly being one of those fans. One thing we can safely bet on is that Phoenix will bring us another memorable performance and another iconic take on one of pop culture’s most iconic villains.

Joker laughs its way into theaters October 4.
