With his success from Get Out still fresh, Oscar-winner Jordan Peele will executive produce a documentary series for Amazon called, Lorena. The series will follow the story of Lorena Bobbitt, who in 1993 became known as the woman who cut off her husband’s penis. Peele recently spoke with Variety, and had this to say on the project.
“When we hear the name ‘Bobbitt’ we think of one of the most sensational incidents to ever be catapulted into a full blown media spectacle. With this project, Lorena has a platform to tell her truth as well as engage in a critical conversation about gender dynamics, abuse, and her demand for justice. This is Lorena’s story and we’re honored to help her tell it.”

Head of unscripted for AmazonOriginals, Heather Schuster, had the following to say:
“Jordan has proven himself as a captivating voice of social critique and we are excited to work with him on this project. Lorena’ reframes Lorena Bobbitt’s story around issues of sexism and domestic abuse and offers Prime members an exclusive new view into how America got her story wrong and maybe continues to get it wrong.”
While I haven’t heard her name in a while, I definitely remember the story from when I was younger. Peele is excellent at what he does, and while the subject matter is obscure, it might just make for an interesting documentary. Bobbitt made headlines around the country for the act she committed, she later said that her reason for it was that her husband had raped her.
