Actor Joshua Jackson is no stranger to being attached to a popular film franchise or series. After winning families over as Charlie Conway in The Mighty Ducks trilogy, Jackson is known to many of us former mid-to-late ’90s teenagers as the wisecracking slacker with a heart of gold Pacey Witter from the popular teen drama Dawson’s Creek. While catching the occasional film role here and there (including Cruel Intentions, Scream 2, The Skulls, and Bobby), Jackson has continued to attach himself to shows receiving either critical-acclaim or a cult following (Showtime’s The Affair and Fox’s Fringe, respectfully).
Jackson’s attachment to popular television projects will continue for at least another two years. Jackson has joined the cast of Hulu’s highly-anticipated series Little Fires Everywhere, based on the novel by Celeste Ng. The Hollywood Reporter describes the series as follows:
The eight-episode limited series follows the intertwined fates of the picture-perfect Richardson family and an enigmatic mother (Kerry Washington) and daughter (Lexi Underwood) who upend their lives. The story explores the weight of secrets, the nature of art and identity, the ferocious pull of motherhood — and the danger in believing that following the rules can avert disaster.

Jackson will play Shaker Heights attorney Bill Richardson, who comes from modest means and his married to strong-willed wife Elena, played by Reese Witherspoon. The rights to the project began before Ng’s book even reached publication, stuck in the middle of a multiple-outlet bidding war. Witherspoon’s company, Hello Sunshine, eventually purchased the rights, presented it to costar and executive producer Washington, brought in to writer Liz Tigelaar (Casual, Life Unexpected) to adapt it and serve as showrunner, and eventually had the project picked up by Hulu. Rounding out the cast will be Megan Scott, Rosemarie DeWitt, Jade Pettyjohn, Jordan Elsass, and Gavin Lewis.
Little Fires Everywhere is set to premiere in 2020. Jackson next appears in Ava DuVernay’s Netflix miniseries When They See Us, premiering Friday, May 31st.
