Jurassic World Getting Animated Spin-Off Called Camp Cretaceous

While audiences weren’t really too thrilled by the latest entry in the Jurassic World saga, viewers have always seemed to have had room for these dino-laden tales for many years. Perhaps it’s the five-year-old in all of us, but I can think of worse ways to spend time than watching people get their s**t rocked by creatures of a prehistoric era — and the creators behind it sure do know it. That’s why this latest announcement is only a mild surprise.

Today, DreamWorks Animation announced a new series called Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous. You can take a look a the first image above, which features six teens standing outside the gates of the titular Camp Cretaceous. The series will take place in the same world as the films and will stream exclusively on Netflix in 2020 as part of a multi-year agreement with the streaming giant.

Below is the official synopsis for the series:

Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous follows a group of six teenagers chosen for a once-in-a-lifetime experience at a new adventure camp on the opposite side of Isla Nublar. But when dinosaurs wreak havoc across the island, the campers are stranded. Unable to reach the outside world, they’ll need to go from strangers to friends to family if they’re going to survive.”

Scott Kreamer (Pinky Malinky) and Lane Lueras (Kung Fu Panda: The Paws of Destiny) serve as showrunners and executive producers. The series is executive produced by Steven Spielberg, Frank Marshall, and Colin Trevorrow. Zack Stentz serves as consulting producer.

I personally can’t help but wonder what sort of tone we’ll be getting with this show. As much as the Jurassic franchise is a PG-13 property, it does have a tendency to get darker. Will this new series really allow the blood to flow and for these teens to be put in mortal danger? My interest is certainly piqued…how about yours? Let us know in the comments down below!
