We’ve all been wondering exactly what Star Wars would look like after this Skywalker saga has finished this December. About the only thing we can seemingly rule out is there being an Episodes 10-12, why? Because everyone involved has made it very clear that Episode 9: The Rise of Skywalker will be the final film in this 9 movie series.
However, that does not mean that there is no future movies that could feature some of the cast from this sequel trilogy. Speaking with MTV News recently Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy did say that they are thinking about what could come next for some of these characters. You can catch the full interview in the link above, but here is a transcription of the relevant information for you.
“You know, there is an appropriate time. We’re using this appropriate time as an opportunity to see where we’re going now that we’re leaving the Skywalker Saga behind. But there’s no question that there’s certain characters that we’ve created certainly in the last three movies that we may very well wanna see down the line in the future.”
This may be vaguer than it seems, because of course as an audience who hasn’t yet seen how this final movie plays out, we don’t know what the state of the universe is after The Rise of Skywalker, which characters have survived or perished etc. The only character I’d peg as likely not to make it out the movie is Kylo Ren, because bringing him back would actually be a continuation of the Skywalker saga.

Until we see The Rise of Skywalker we cannot even start developing our own wish lists for what kind of way we’d like to see certain characters come back. I mean we could be desperate for a Brokeback Mountain kind of sexual awakening story between Finn and Poe. Or, we could be looking at a Lando and Chewie buddy movie like Grumpy Old Men. I guess we will just have to wait and see what happens in the new movie first.
