Kevin Smith To Bring The Green Hornet Back To Television In New Animated Series

Long before there was an emerald-tinted mile, an inferno, a day, and yes even a Lantern, there was a hornet. The Green Hornet. And thanks to Council of Nerds high-ranking member Kevin Smith is set to relaunch The Green Hornet. The animated reboot will be set in modern-day and will feature the son of Green Hornet and the daughter of Kato.

The duo will of course fight crime in Century City, and yes, the series will also include the third member of their crew, the sweet ride known as Black Beauty. You can check out what Smith and Executive Vice President of Content and Current Series at WildBrain had to say below.

Kevin Smith:

“It’s an honor to escort the legendary Green Hornet and Kato into their very own animated series for the first time in the rich history of these iconic pop culture characters! We’ll be telling a tale of two Hornets – past and future – that spans generations and draws inspiration from a lifetime spent watching classic cartoons and amazing animation like Batman: The Animated Series, Heavy Metal, and Super Friends. I can’t believe WildBrain gave me this job and I can’t thank them enough for the opportunity to extend my childhood a little longer.”

 Stephanie Betts:

“We’re thrilled to embark on a new animated Green Hornet series with Kevin, who has set up an incredibly rich world with a cast of amazing characters – especially Kato, who is no longer just a sidekick, but is now a strong female partner to the Green Hornet. With his ingenious talent and passion for superheroes and classic franchises, Kevin is the perfect creator to update the Green Hornet. We’re excited to share the new Green Hornet and Kato with audiences worldwide.”

Personally, I’ve never been big into the series. I’m pretty sure I’ve not seen more than a few minutes of the old Television show. The Seth Rogen version 2011 didn’t really grab my attention. I like Rogen, but this just wasn’t a good fit for him in my opinion).

And while this may sound as if I am bad-mouthing the franchise, I would much rather see Smith take on almost any other superhero instead of Green Hornet. However, perhaps the Mallrats director sees something in it that I do not. I will give the series a shot when it debuts and keep an open mind. I gam more than willing to let Smith make me a fan of the series.
