Get ready, gamers, because the world of Kingdom Hearts is about to get a lot more convoluted. Many years ago, audiences were treated to a rare and unexpected treat when Kingdom Hearts was announced. This was a game that would be developed by Squaresoft — a dominant force in JRPGs — with the cooperation of Disney. What resulted is a franchise that spans several games and one hell of a convoluted story.

But, for several months, fans have been clamoring for something more. Yes, the games have always been beloved, but would it ever take the next level? Would we ever get to see it explode into another screened medium? With Disney+ taking off, fans thought a streaming series for the franchise would be the next logical step. It would push the franchise forward and give Disney+ more much-needed content.

However, as far as actual rumors go, things were pretty silent…until today.

Scooper Jeremy Conrad of MCU Cosmic recently put out a cryptic tweet saying, “Yes, it’s true,” along with a .gif featuring Goofy, Sora, and Donald from the Kingdom Hearts series. It didn’t take long for fans to start speculating what this could possibly mean.

But fans didn’t have to wait too long for another scooper to swoop in. Skyler Shuler of The DisInsider corroborated this cryptic claim from Conrad, going on to reveal more about the supposed project. According to Shuler, the series will be a Disney+ series, not a movie. Additionally, the show will be a CG-animated series (which makes sense), wherein all of the Disney voice actors are expected to reprise their roles.

It hasn’t been long since Kingdom Hearts fans had their fill. Last year, they got Kingdom Hearts III, and earlier this year, some DLC hit for the game. That’s probably for the best, because if this is true, it’ll likely be a long time until we see the series hit. Animation is a notoriously labored and lengthy process, and if they’re just starting out…well, let’s just say we’ll likely be waiting at least a few years.
