It looks like Star Wars is about to get a bit artsy as filmmaker Kogonada is rumored to direct some episodes of Star Wars: The Acolyte. I’ve heard of Kogonada (After Yang, Pachinko) but have not seen his work. I know in cinephile circles his name is spoken of with reverence. The rumor comes from Daniel RPK. However as you know he runs a Patreon, ergo you can see the news for yourself covered by another outlet below.

This is surprisingly not the first time I have heard this rumor. I saw it posted on a rumors forum with no real weight to it. It was therefore not worth looking into more until this latest claim. Daniel has hits and misses, and I would not rely on all his rumors when it comes to Star Wars. However, when it comes to directors, and crew details, his record is good. It will be interesting to see if any of the trades were sitting on this one. If so, by this evening whoever that may be will have decided to drop it.
Though if you don’t see it later, that doesn’t mean this is a false rumor. Instead perhaps there was merely no information trades were sitting on before hand. I even saw one fan of Kogonada (yes, just one name, like Madonna, or Prince, Sting, Pele, or Cher and so on and so forth) claim this is the most talented director to ever work on a Star Wars project. Now that is a bold claim, though I am in no position to comment on it. Not without seeing Kogonada’s work first.

The Acolyte is filming now, mostly in the U.K. and it will likely be some time in 2024 before you see it on your Disney+ menu. So far we’ve had an official synopsis, which seems out of place with rumors we shared from people who Lucasfilm shut down very quickly. I’d say that all we know so far is that lead star Amandla Stenberg may be veering towards the Darkside of the Force. Oh, and this is all happening around 100 years before the events of The Phantom Menace.
Star Wars: The Acolyte will also star Lee Jung-jae, Dafne Keen, Manny Jacinto, Jodie-Turner Smith, Carrie-Anne Moss and more.
What do you think as Kogonada is rumored to direct some episodes of Star Wars: The Acolyte? Thoughts below as always.
