Kumail Nanjiani Got Absolutely Ripped For The Eternals, Shared His Journey On Instagram

While there have been many actors who have gotten ripped in recent years in anticipation for their roles in Marvel movies, perhaps the most notable was that of Chris Pratt who, after establishing himself as the schlubby, lovable idiot, went on to become an action star, and had a body to match. Now, we have another actor who’s made a huge transformation in the form of Kumail Nanjiani.

The comedian and actor is likely most recognized from his role in Silicon Valley, but if you’ve been following even the more recent season of the show, you may have noticed the size of his biceps have grown. Now, in an Instagram post, Nanjiani shared his journey to his new body in anticipation of his role in Marvel’s The Eternals.

“I never thought I’d be one of those people who would post a thirsty shirtless, but I’ve worked way too hard for way too long so here we are. You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain. I found out a year ago I was going to be in Marvel’s Eternals and decided I wanted to transform how I looked. I would not have been able to do this if I didn’t have a full year with the best trainers and nutritionists paid for by the biggest studio in the world. I’m glad I look like this, but I also understand why I never did before. It would have been impossible without these resources and time.”

Nanjiani then went on to thank all the people who helped him at various stages — from prep to filming to catering, and the like.

This certainly does seem to have a different tone than something Chris Pratt would say. In the past, Pratt has stated things along the lines of, “you can do it as long as you put your mind to it,” whereas Nanjiani pretty much states, “there’s no way I could have done this without the time and resources afforded me.” Both are admirable in their own way, but it’s nice to see the acknowledgment of the time, hard work, and all-encompassing nature it is in order to get as big as a Marvel superhero.
