Latest Batman Suit May Have Been Inspired By Kevin Smith?

Yesterday, The Batman director Matt Reeves dropped an unexpected bombshell on us fans. We were treated to a minute-long video introducing Robert Pattinson’s version of the Caped Crusader. It’s a unique take on the bat suit, for sure, as it gives off more of a tech-inspired vibe (save for that leather cowl), but is it possible that it was inspired by, of all people…Kevin Smith?

Yes, Kevin Smith, the writer and director of fan-favorite movies like Chasing Amy and Clerks. That guy. Of course, if you know Smith, you know that he’s dipped his toe in comics in the past. He’s done work on characters like Batman, Green Arrow, and Green Lantern. He also contributed to Detective Comics #1000 deluxe edition in a story called “Manufacture for Use.”

In the story, Batman melts down the metal from the gun that was used by Joe Chill to kill his parents. The idea behind it is that the metal that broke his heart as a kid could protect his heart as a man.

Now, if you’ll recall, Robert Pattinson’s own Batsuit had a questionable bat logo. Personally, I thought it looked like a potential batarang, but many are speculating that the logo is made from the gun that killed his parents.

Needless to say, Kevin Smith — ever the fanboy — was immensely excited when he caught wind of this theory. He took to Twitter to share his excitement, crossing his fingers that this little theory ended up being true.

Honestly, it’s a pretty cool idea. A little weird (seriously, Bruce, go to therapy), but I guess we call cope in different ways, right? What do you think of this theory? Do you buy this theory or do you think there’s a more utilitarian use for the logo? Let us know your thoughts down below!
