Phoebe Waller-Bridge Confirms She’s Developing Tomb Raider Series For Amazon Prime

Promoting Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Phoebe Waller-Bridge confirms she's developing the Tomb Raider series for Amazon Prime.

On the promotional trail for her acting work in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Phoebe Waller-Bridge confirms she’s developing the Tomb Raider series for Amazon Prime. That doesn’t mean Waller-Bridge will be playing Lara Croft, instead this is the writer/producer working behind the camera. It was previously reported that Waller-Bridge would write and executive produce the series for Amazon. Which, I’d likely refer to as showrunner, but that’s not always the term used these days.

Speaking with IGN the talented Waller-Bridge discussed how she is coming at Tomb Raider. Specifically talking about how her experiences making an Indiana Jones movie and writing a James Bond movie have to help her with Tomb Raider. I mean Tomb Raider is kinda like Indy and James Bond had a kid called Lara after all.

“There’s so much I can incorporate,” Waller-Bridge began. “I mean, the character of Lara Croft was inspired by Indiana Jones and James Bond. So there’s so much, and it just felt like the perfect final step in my own personal adventure through this kind of franchise world.”

“I love the idea of, as Steven Spielberg describes it, the greatest show on Earth, as in being able to make things with that scale and to go on adventures that big and for the comedy and the heart to be matched but on this kind of great, great level, and, actually, through all the adventure stuff that I’ve learned from those [franchises], it’s actually how to keep something feeling grounded as well as allow it to be bigger than itself in some way. And so hopefully that will all translate perfectly, seamlessly into Tomb Raider.”

Tomb Raider is in very early development. That means we have no timeline, cast, or anything else yet beyond Waller Bridge.

What do you think as Phoebe Waller-Bridge confirms she’s developing the Tomb Raider series for Amazon Prime? As always, leave us any thoughts below on this news.
