So… A few days ago, we got our first look at Leslie Grace’s Batgirl costume in the upcoming movie, Batgirl. Some fans are grateful that the costume is comic book accurate and some, like myself, are not happy with the direction taken.
Batgirl’s Costume… Does It Miss The Mark?
While I do like that the costume designers went with the basic look Barbara Gordon has worn in the comics, it looks cheap and the silhouette is weird. Why did they feel the need to make it look like the chest is taped down and she’s wearing an altered man’s costume. Also, is that meant to be blue or purple? She uses both in the comics. The lighting makes it a little difficult to tell, but I think it’s blue. Either way, that bright and shiny color is a bit much. It would have been better to go with a darker, more dull color. I do love the red hair on Grace, though. Some took to social media to criticize and there are a lot of funny reactions to the costume.
I mean look at this cosplay looks better and more accurate than what we got 😭 pic.twitter.com/Dli6ZliKgn

It’s hard to wait for the film! Also, if it’s supposed to look like she made it herself, cosplayers have been kicking ass with their designs for many years. The torso looks so weird. Hell, Michelle Pfeiffer’s catwoman in Batman Returns designed her costume and it looked fantastic. And if anyone wants to talk about Tom Holland’s Spiderman, Peter Parker is a mess. He, a tech genius, could make webbing, but couldn’t look up how to make a superhero suit on the internet. Also, wrong cinematic universe.
I’m trying to be optimistic for Batgirl, but Barbara’s look is jarring. A DC film with Michael Keaton returning as Batman and J.K. Simmons starring as Commissioner Gordon? Sounds freaking great, but I don’t want a giant blue (purple?) distraction messing with my viewing experience. Is it wrong that I’m hoping for a Sonic trailer moment?
