As they say in Hollywood, if it’s been around once, it can be around again. Okay, no one actually says that, but you know what I mean. Hollywood is a pretty risk-averse place — mostly because movies are inherently risky projects — so any chance to fall back on an established piece of intellectual property is one they’ll take. It may feel creatively bankrupt, but they have a higher chance of making money that way.

So, why I’m going on such a long preamble? Well, a classic series is poised to come back. In a recent producer roundtable, Dan Lin appeared and gave some interesting information about another movie.

“We’re trying to make the last Lethal Weapon movie. And Dick Donner’s coming back. The original cast is coming back. And it’s just amazing. The story is very personal to him. Mel and Danny are ready to go, so it’s about the script.”

Of course, nothing is confirmed. As with all things in the biz, it can basically fall apart if the breeze blows in a certain direction. From the sound of it, it will all depend on whether or not they can actually nail the script. The real question here is whether or not the original film’s scribe, Shane Black, will be back pen this last one.
