In a recent interview director Shawn Levy talks about his new Star Wars movie in development, but refuses to comment on Adam Driver links. Levy, who is currently awaiting a new start date for Deadpool 3, is as we know developing a Star Wars movie. I won’t yet say making a Star Wars movie though. In the past after all, many ‘in development’ movies have never gone under cameras.

As you’d guess. Levy isn’t giving anything away about his movie. However, he did offer some comments about the process when he spoke to Variety recently. Levy was asked what he will do differently with Star Wars?

“When Kathy Kennedy brought me on board to make a “Star Wars” movie, her central mandate to me was “I want a Shawn Levy movie. I want a story and a tone that reflects you and your taste and what you bring to your movies — with a ‘Star Wars’ story.” So I have felt extremely empowered. We are in early days, unfortunately, because the development process was abruptly paused [due to the WGA strike], but I feel very empowered to trust my instincts in the development of this story and movie.”

“The experience that I’m currently having with Marvel on “Deadpool” is showing me firsthand that it is indeed really possible to feel empowered and personal about making a movie within a universe that is bigger than any one film. My “Deadpool” movie is turning out to be exactly what Ryan [Reynolds] and I had hoped when we started off. So I’m going into the development of my “Star Wars” movie with a similar optimism, and faith that my instincts will be allowed to lead the way.”

However when asked specifically about Adam Driver, given their relationship, and whether this movie could feature Ben Solo/Kylo Ren? Levy wasn’t saying anything.

“Your words, not mine! As you know Adam is a buddy, and I’ve always been a huge fan of Kylo Ren. But no comment.”

I would not read too much into that in terms of Levy’s response. However, it is an odd question for a trade to ask unless they had some information. I guess we will just have to wait and see? However, for now I don’t think there’s any reason to assume there is a connection. That may change though?

What do you think of his comments as Shawn Levy talks about his new Star Wars movie but refuses to comment on Adam Driver links? Thoughts below as always.
