Earlier this week fans got to see the Obi-Wan Kenobi finale Qui-Gon cameo we’d hoped for. Now we can hear from Liam Neeson on Obi-Wan Kenobi and making his return to Star Wars in live-action for the first time since The Phantom Menace. Neeson of course has been lately denying any involvement in the show, but now can talk freely and did so recently with THR.
“I certainly didn’t want anyone else playing Qui-Gon Jinn, and I wanted to show my respect for George [Lucas] and that mythical world that he created,” Neeson told THR. “Plus, Ewan [McGregor] is a pal, and I loved working with him during The Phantom Menace 25 years ago.”
Given that Qui-Gon, who only appears in one movie goes on to have such an influence on the rest of the Skywalker Saga, it’s surprising we haven’t seen more of him. I guess Lucas made the decision to have Qui-Gon not fully able to become a Force Ghost like we see later from Yoda and Obi-Wan. Therefore we have heard Qui-Gon’s and Neeson’s voice a few times, but no visuals until now.

I’m not 100% sure it makes sense for Qui-Gon to physically appear to Obi-Wan on Tatooine? However I admit I liked it and would be quite happy to see more of Qui-Gon and his training of Obi-Wan. Even if it is mostly just voice over work for Neeson. I mean, Qui-Gon is literally the key to the future of the Jedi, even Yoda refers to him now as Master.
An appearance from Qui-Gon was something I dearly wanted from Obi-Wan Kenobi, even if it was just voice. I’m so glad we got even more than that.
