Liev Schreiber Proclaims On Instagram That Ray Donovan Isn’t Dead Yet

Ray Donovan fans have been living in a personal hell for the past week. Just one week ago, Showtime announced it was canceling their popular series after the cliffhanger ending to season 7. Adding fuel to the fire, showrunner David Hollander admitted he and his creative team were blindsided by the network’s decision.

However, it seems there may stile hope for an eighth season. At least, according to star Liev Schreiber.

Schrieber took to Instagram Wednesday evening, delivering a message to the Ray Donovan fanbase. “It seems like your voices have been heard,” his printed message states. “Too soon to say how or when, but with a little luck and your ongoing support, there will be more Ray Donovan.”

While Schreiber would not elaborate further, and Showtime officially having no comment, it seems that there may be hope for Ray Donovan getting one more season. It was just last month that Showtime’s Co-President of Entertainment Gary Levine made his statement regarding the show’s future. “I think Ray Donovan is nearing the end of its run,” he said. “We always talked about seven or eight seasons.”

While season 7 did feature Ray (played by Schreiber) avenging the death of his sister, it did end on a cliffhanger. To leave the fanbase hanging like that and cancel the series would generate negative press reminiscent of the notorious “black screen” series finale for The Sopranos. Here’s hoping the network and the production can agree to one final season and give Ray a proper send-off.
