Mackie Unsure About Falcon’s Future In The MCU

Ina recent interview with Variety Anthony Mackie told the trade that he is unsure about Falcon’s future in the MCU. Mackie said he didn’t know anything about a Season 2 of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, nor whether he would be in upcoming movies. The quotes were not included within the article itself, so we have nothing more to go on than what was stated.

Now, Mackie could simply be playing coy and he knows fine well where his character shows up next, He’s hardly going to tell the trade about a movie or show he’s set to feature in unless it has been officially announced. So what is Falcon’s future in the MCU?

One would imagine that by the end of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Sam will be Captain America. For me that would instantly rule out a second Season of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. I could see a show called Captain America and Bucky, or something of that ilk further down the line. As for movie appearances, there currently isn’t a project I’d automatically place Captain America in. Some of the upcoming movies like Love and Thunder, Multiverse of Madness, and perhaps even Spider-Man: No Way Home feel like anyone could show up. Yet, Sam’s Captain America, I would not guess appears in those.

If we ever get another full Avengers movie, then I totally think Sam will be back. The next rumored Avengers movie is Young Avengers. Though Young Avengers is hardly certain, there does appear to be the core of a possible team making their debuts in the MCU. We have Wiccan and Speed potentially from WandaVision, and we have Cassie Lang, with Riri Williams to come. Kamala Khan, and Eli Bradley are set to show up and there are rumors around Kid Loki. However, it seems hard to imagine Sam’s Cap leading that young team.

I don’t think there is anything to worry about here, but Falcon’s future in the MCU is in my opinion dead. That’s because it will be Captain America’s future in the MCU after we get through The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. Perhaps Mackie’s future will become a little clearer once that big step forward has been taken?

What do you think the future of Sam Wilson holds in the MCU. Do you agree with me that there will be no Falcon once he dons the shield properly? As always, leave any thoughts below.
