Oh, Maleficent. I remember before that movie came out. I’d managed to snag a copy of the script back around 2012 or so, and while I generally love everything Disney, it was hard not to at least poke fun at the script. Perhaps it was the limitation of my own imagination, but it was really hard to take anything seriously in it for me. But then the movie went on to break $750 million at the worldwide box office, so clearly, I don’t know what the hell makes a box office hit.
With those numbers and the live-action department really taking over at Disney, they were bound to make a sequel. For a while, it’s been slated for release May 29, 2020 — still a decent ways away, so you can expect our surprise when the studio sent us a new poster for the film, showing off a first look at the titular character played by Angelina Jolie, the new title, and the new release date.

The movie is officially called Maleficent: Mistress of Evil and it is now set to hit theaters on October 18, 2019. Of course, Jolie will be reprising her role in the film as will Elle Fanning as Princess Aurora, but given that there is no other material to go off of, I’m not really sure what to expect in this sequel. How will they continue on the story for this character? We have just over seven months left until the film hits, so we won’t have to wait long until we find out the overall premise.
