Mando S3E6 Review: 90% Filler But I Had Fun

Mando S3E6 review. I found this episode of The Mandalorian filler that could have been left. Yet, despite this, I really enjoyed what I saw.

As usual, here is my written Mando S3E6 review. I found this episode of The Mandalorian almost all filler that could have been left behind. Yet, I also have to say, despite this, I really enjoyed what I saw, with a few gripes.

As always, I will be attempting to keep this as SPOILER Free as possible. I don’t think staying spoiler free should be too trikcy this week. I’ll do my best.

Guns for Hire

I’ll start by saying that the episode begins with a fairly pointless cold open. It lasts for around 6 minutes and for me adds nothing that could not have been accomplished in far less screen time. However, as I said in the title, this week feels like 90% filler to me, so having a 6 minute inconsequential cold open feels part of that. Honestly, it does feel like Favreau wrote 7 episodes for Season 3 and had a space he had to fill, so we got ‘Guns for Hire’.

Developments regarding to main plot of Season 3 so far do kick, but not till the final 9 minutes. In between the 6 minute open and the 9 minutes of seasonal progression we have a pretty self contained story. Now, I get the feeling online that not a lot of fans enjoyed this story. Just calling it like I see it, I was entertained. I think my only real gripe with this side quest was the ultimate resolution, which just seemed so anti-climactic. However there were some good ideas, and we do see Dinn and Bo-Katan working together as a team, which was good, because there’s some chemistry between the characters.

All I’ll say is, do not expect anything that happened in the central part of Episode 6 to ever be mentioned again, or relevant.

Oh and there were a few famous faces to spot in some roles this week. At first I was like, nah! However, I actually ended up enjoying these guest appearances albeit that still, they meant nothing.

The Bo-Katan Show

Look, I like the character, but The Mandalorian Season 3 has really become the Bo-Katan show. This week felt like Dinn and Bo-Katan were a team, and that’s fine, but given how little timer we’ve spent with Dinn this season, I am wondering where his story is going? Those last 10 minutes give us some progress, albeit in some ways I was not quite expecting. Of course there is still two episodes left. I also don’t expect resolutions to all plots by the season end. I very much believe this story of Mandalore will run into Season 4 at least. I’m therefore not panicking like some fans that there are only 2 episodes left to wrap up the story. I disagree, This Season can still conclude in an exciting manner whilst leaving is waiting for more answers in Season 4.

Bo-Katan and Dinn do make a good team. It would be interesting to see that relationship develop into a romantic one. However, I’m not one of these fans who needs to ‘ship’ characters. If the writers go that route so be it, if they don’t, then I won’t be moaning for DinnBoGu as a family unit.

Also have to say that after getting far more to do early in this Season, Grogu is kinda meaningless right now. I expect that could change in the final two episodes, but I liked seeing more of Grogu and want to see the character develop further beyond a puppet.

Gripes?

I’ve mentioned a few issues already above. However that cold open had some bad dialogue in it. It felt almost Attack of the Clones Anakin and Padme bad. Never go full Clones Favreau.

The investigation’s conclusion was hardly up there with one of Agatha Christie’s classics. ‘Oh, that’s who did it and why, boring!’

A few CGI issues, specifically when we see a droid running. It felt to begin with far too fluid and biological to me. Later in the same scenes it felt more like a droid again, but it stood out to me.

I also had a slight gripe about the way a few scenes went down in the close, which was relevant to the overall story. I will therefore not give any details other than to say, I’m not sure someone yet deserves what another someone did for them.

Overall I did enjoy Episode 6. However, I can also spot filler a mile off and even if it’s not too bad it still won’t be memorable out side of the last 10 minutes. That has to factor into my grading. It was alright, but a contender for most forgettable episode of Season 3 for sure.

GRADE: C
