Marion Was Originally Bigger Part Of Indiana Jones 5 Says Karen Allen [SPOILERS]

Karen Allen says Marion was originally a bigger part in previous versions of Indiana Jones 5.

I’m sure you know the fifth Indy film went through many variations and now Karen Allen says Marion was originally a bigger part in previous versions of Indiana Jones 5. The fifth, and likely final Indy movie just released last week and critic plus audiences score are…okay. However, box office is not really flying and the film seems to be doing better in some foreign markets than domestically.

I have yet to see the movie yet, so I won’t comment on too much on how well or not the film was made. After I see it, I’ll be more than happy to give my thoughts. However, I do know one aspect of the movie without spoiling myself, that Karen Allen has a brief cameo at the end of the movie as Marion. Ill say no more than that about the plot. Though, there will be a spoiler warning below.

Recently speaking with THR, Allen says she was a little disappointed not to get to do more. In some of the previous versions of the story, she had a larger role and she had been looking forward to that.

“When Steven [Spielberg] was still going to direct the film, I didn’t have the opportunity to read any of those scripts, although I know that Marion was much more involved in the story at that juncture,” Allen tells The Hollywood Reporter. “So I knew James [Mangold] had hired new writers and that there was going to be a whole new approach with a new director and new writers, but I was really going into the unknown.”

Now the next part of what Allen has to say contains some spoilers for the movie. Not necessarily the main plot, but the personal arc of Indiana Jones is mentioned here, so be warned.

**Dial of Destiny SPOILERS Below!**

Karen Allen says Marion was originally a bigger part in previous versions of Indiana Jones 5.

Karen Allen continued.

“The next thing I knew, I was reading a script that told [Dial of Destiny’s] story, and of course, I was disappointed. I had thought that I would be majorly a part of the film, and that was just not the direction they decided to go,” Allen says. “I think they had some problems to solve with the story in terms of Shia LaBeouf not coming back, and they chose to create this story that Mutt had been killed in the war and that it put a wedge between Marion and Indy. You could have knocked me over with a feather when I read it. But I was really happy that they came back together in the end.”

LaBeouf was never coming back. Therefore it was always going to be a case of recast or kill off. They made their decision and that’s that. Some toxic fans are trying to claim they ruined Indiana Jones by making Indy old and broken. I think it’s just a smart way to deal with a loose end and a way to also bring some finality. We’re not going to get a rebooted series with Mutt taking the lead. Indiana Jones is over, and he and Marion go on with their lives, always missing their son.

It’s about opinions though. What’s yours? Karen Allen says Marion was originally a bigger part in previous versions of Indiana Jones 5. Would you have preferred that idea, or the one we got? Share if you can.
