Mark Strong In Talks To Join Shazam In Villain Role

Mark Strong may soon be heading over to the DC Extended Universe in a villainous role, TheWrap is reporting. According to the outlet, he is in talks to play the role of DC villain Doctor Sivana in Shazam.

Doctor Sivana is one of Shazam’s most frequent enemies (and the first one to figure out Shazam’s true identity), and in the New 52 run, he’s shown as a scientist who turns to magic in order to save his family. He’s essentially a good guy turned mad scientist. the character originated in the 1940s’ Whiz Comics #2.

Mark Strong is no stranger to DC, but he is a stranger to GOOD DC movies, as his latest outing in a DC film was in the disastrous Green Lantern film in 2011. In that film he played the character of Sinestro, who randomly turned evil in the post-credits scene in Green Lantern.

This news comes only a couple days following the confirmation that Zachary Levi would be taking on the role of Shazam himself (or Captain Marvel, as he’s no longer legally allowed to be called). The film is set to hit production early next year, and is unique in the DCEU in that it’s being developed by New Line Cinema, and is directed by Lights Out helmer David F. Sandberg.
