Marvel Did Explore MJ Being A Superhero At One Point Says Tom Holland and Zendaya

In a recent interview with ОК на связи! Spider-Man star Tom Holland says Marvel did explore MJ being a superhero at one point. In the interview Zendaya is asked whether she ever asked Marvel to make her into a superhero also. Zendaya is in the middle of saying “no, no, no.” when Holland interrupts and says,

“They were trying for a while though, remember that?” T0 which Zendaya responds,

“Yeah, but I leave the super heroing to this one (pointing at Holland). I’m really happy with MJ, and the character she is and she plays. I think what special about what Jon (Watts) does with MJ, Ned, and Peter is create this beautiful friendship and love between them. But also, like, Spider-Man he saves the World, but he needs help, you know? He can’t do it on his own. At the end of the day he’s just a young person trying to figure it out and MJ and Ned, they help him try to figure it out. They’re smart kids lets not forget so they put their brains together to try and figure it out. So I’m totally fine with being part of the team.”

If you skip to 04:20 in the video below you will catch it for yourself.

What is not completely clear is who ‘they’ are? Was it Marvel Studios themselves that explored this option, or was this something Sony had an idea for? Either way, I get the feeling that was not the talk for No Way Home, but perhaps back in Homecoming or Far From Home this idea was explored? Wherever it was for sure doesn’t really matter, as clearly it was an abandoned idea.

Sadly you’d have to say it seems unlikely Zendaya will be back for Spider-Man 4 given the fact Peter has decided to let her go. Marvel absolutely could find a way to bring back both MJ and Ned in the next movies, but you get the feeling that’s not where they want to go for now? I guess we’ll find out eventually?

So Marvel did explore MJ being a superhero at one point says Tom Holland. Thankfully cooler heads prevailed and that did not take root. I think supeing up MJ would have been the wrong call for this trilogy. However what do you think? Leave any thoughts you have below.
